can't get past 'make world'

Trying to complete the teTeX installation, I get the following error
(see below). I've tried various combinations of ./configuration
options, set TERM=vt100, etc, but it still fails. Any ideas? There is
plenty of file system space, 198M free. I moved the texmfsrc files
(/source) to the share/texmf directory tree.

strip makeinfo
strip mf
strip mfw
strip mft
