Pool capacity exceeded

While compiling to dvi a Texinfo source file with a very large index, TeX
complains about its pool's capacity being exceeded, and tells me to rerun it
with an higher capacity value.

What are the precise TeX directives that I can include in my texi2dvi run or
in my Texinfo source to achieve this?
