Subject: [help-texinfo] Wish: --split-level
I assume you're talking about HTML. Yes, it would be very nice, I used
the texi2html option myself many times, but it won't happen. The
problem is with cross-references to other manuals -- a reference to
/manual/chapter.html#somenode wouldn't work if /manual was split by
something else when it was installed, and vice versa.
Patrice and I collaborated on a new html xref scheme in the last
releases of both texinfo and texi2html. (Described in the manual.) It
was hard enough making the monolithic and split-by-node cases both work
(more or less). Adding more splitting choices seems impractical to me.
Sorry.
