[igraph] extract network stats for a subset of nodes

I'm sure someone might have asked this before. 

In the example, degree <- degree(simple_graph, v=V(simple_graph), mode = c("all"), loops = FALSE) 

How do I extract a subset of node attributes using a vector containing vertex names and supply to the argument v = subset of nodes?
