[igraph] assortativity code

I need to calculate the assortativity coefficient for nodes labeled with 
different nominal variables. I know the igraph development version 0.6  
has this function. However, compiling the development version for use in 
R is beyond my capabilities. Does anyone have code to run the version 
0.6 function with nominal variables in the the current version of igraph 
for R (0.5.5-2).
