Hi,

I'm just starting to use CVS, and I'm having a problem with getting commit to
accept my log messages.

I'm trying to commit a file that I've editted and I'm getting the 'Log message
unchanged or unspecified' error when I try to commit a file. The commit seems
to work fine, but the log message doesn't get inserted in the change log.

Here is a sample session:

cvs update src/file.c
cvs commit src/file.c

 >> VI stuff here
 >> followed by :wq

Log message unchanged or not specified
a)bort, c)ontinue, e)dit, !)reuse this message unchanged for remaining dirs
 Action: (continue)

The file VI wants to write to is :
/tmp/cvsAAAa001br" 9 lines, 245 characters

The CVS operation seems to work fine, and I'm able to look at the log file of
differences, but I'd really like to be able to put more descriptive log
messages in than is possible using -m "<message>".

I'm running CVS v1.11, downloaded from www.cvshome.org. I built i using gcc
2.95.1, excluding the client and server components. My operating system is
Solaris 2.5.1, machine sun ultra10

I also got the same message if I built is as a client/server system, using
local access to the repository.

I've looked around in all the documentation I can find, but I've not been able
to find a solution. If anyone has the answer, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks,
