CVS log

Is there some sort of (very basic) text log w/CVS besides the change log(s)?
For example, is there a way to log _only_ the checkin time and user, and
nothing else?  (this would be in addition to the usual change logs..)  We
just want a sort of snapshot on the day's activities.  Or perhaps this is
something that could be easily grepped from the change logs??  I
