Wondering if there is a known issue with running
cvs as userid root?
We've had cvs running for years, but in doing
some time tests where we were trying to precede
the cvs command with
/usr/bin/nice -20
in order to give it priority over other processes
(anything less than 0 must have root privs), in
an attempt to speed up checkout times.
It starts to run but then fails with "cannot
rename file <tables.con> to CVS/,,tables.con:
Permission denied." This happens with various
different files.
The same command works fine if I run it under my
userid or if anyone with permissions to our cvs
group runs it. I added root to this group just
to be safe, but to no avail.
