This claim is also incorrect.  It *is* possible to do the following:
- version the modules database.
- add an RCS file identifier to the CVS/Entries file.
- add a more flexible computation to write the RCS file identifiers in the
  CVS/Entries file.

The result would be *very* similar to CVS.
