If that's really true, the right thing must be to change CVS so it
doesn't do that without prompting and/or saving a backup copy of the
file.
(I thought that checksum failure messages indicated a bug in the patch
algorithm. I suppose they could be either that or strange changes to
the local file that CVS didn't notice.)
