I don't think I've ever heard before of anyone putting sand in a litter
box (for cats or any other household critters), but of course cats (and
many wild critters such as racoons and skunks and so on) love to leave
their offerings in sand if given half a chance, be it in a sandbox or
not. Easy digging! ;-)
