Problem using WSAD 5.1 with CVS

I have the following problem, everytime I try to branch a proyect I
get the following error:

The server informed that an error occured while it was executing "cvs
tag"

(proyect name): cvs [server aborted]: tag '(branch name)' has
non-visible graphic characters.

I have another problem, I don't know how to check-out a file that is
already on the server to modify it locally, I would be very grateful
if someone can post an example, step by step, from the beggining.
The CVS repository is on a Win2k PC.
