Because the old CVSROOT string is stored in the CVS/Root files in your sandbox. You need to either remove your sandbox and checkout a fresh one, or manually edit the CVS/Root files in your existing sandbox to use the new CVSROOT string.

Thanks to everyone who responded. That was exactly what I needed to know. I edited the three existing Root file in my sandbox and it works fine.

Understanding this problem and the fix, is crucial to my moving a repository to this server, from another (see my other thread). My users don't want to have to committ everything to the old server and then checkout everything from the new one, so we'll script the editing of all their Root files, so that they won't have to. Then they can just commit to the repository in its new location, whenever they are ready.
