"failed to create lock" even after a new repository!

Hi,

I must be missing something...

I was having problems with CVS (urg!), so I completely scrapped the
repository and created a new one.

I then get the following error when doing a "cvs status" on a new
module:

cvs status: failed to create lock directory for `/Users/me/cvsroot/
Project1' (/Users/me/cvsroot/Project1/#cvs.lock): No such file or
directory
cvs status: failed to obtain dir lock in repository `/Users/me/cvsroot/
Project1'
cvs [status aborted]: read lock failed - giving up

Project1 is an old project, obviously not in the repository anymore.

Any ideas what is going on?
