What you gnus was supposed to do?
The only possible thing would be to use "SMTP AUTH" *BUT* the server had
not indicated support for "SMTP AUTH" in reply to EHLO.
May be the server offers SMTP AUTH support *after* STARLS?
(over encrypted connections)
