Yup, this is the same problem as Allyson Bright, and i experienced that too a 
few days ago.

True, and when you comment the line, you get this error:
Field XXX must have at least one subfield at 
/usr/local/share/perl/5.6.1/MARC/Record.pm line 591

I think this is a critical bug, that should be solved before 2.0.0pre3.
the problem is that the release manager is now away for 2 weeks.
