Because it would most probably be a waste of time to not use the
existing code.  Can you give good reasons why one should try to do it?

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean.  The Hurd servers are
using the GNU C library already, and that's how it should be.

I have never heard about an IO server in the Hurd design.
