Either it's security by obscurity, known to fail for quite some time, or
it's no protection at all.

If he broke into the car in the first place, breaking the console will
be child's game.

10 minutes of patience is a cheap price for a car, IMHO.

Nothing prevents the hijacker to wait at a secure distance during this
period. Most persons in the neighborhood will just take a look and go
back to their occupations.

But the illusion of security is always comfortable, and that's a
valuable service that anti-hijacking systems vendors provide to their
customers. In this era of paranoia, that may be a good thing.
