Hello,

You are receiving this message because you requested an invitation to
Nimbus.io, an open source alternative to Amazon's S3 cloud storage
service, priced at $0.06 per GB.  Nimbus.io is a new product created
by SpiderOak, a cloud backup and sync company focused on meaningful
encryption and privacy since 2007.

Nimbus.io is both a commercial cloud storage service and a free and
open source software project others may use and participate in.
Several thousand people requested invites within hours of the initial
announcement back in November.

Recently we've reached the first release milestone and core
functionality is complete.  Source code for the storage software, an
easy tool for launching simulated storage clusters for development,
and a first draft of documentation are now publicly available.
Interested programmers are invited to join the project.

The cloud storage service powered by this software and operated by
SpiderOak at https://nimbus.io/ will be available for purchase in the
next three months, and we'll send another update at that time.

The project page for Nimbus.io storage software is is at:

https://nimbus.io/dev/trac

There you can find source code, wiki, development mailing list, and
development roadmap.  A first draft of documentation is provided for
developers using the storage API, administrators wishing to operate
the service for their own sites, and programmers interested in working
on the Nimbus.io project itself.

The following source code is available:

 - Lumberyard -- A Python library for accessing a Nimbus.io storage service
 - Motoboto -- A port of the popular "boto" Python library for Amazon
S3, using Nimbus.io
 - Motoboto benchmark tools -- A stress testing and benchmark tool
used for developing Nimbus.io
 - Nimbus.io -- The storage software itself

We invite you to participate in Nimbus.io development by joining the
mailing list, cloning the source, or checking the Nimbus.io project
page.

One of our next steps is building client libraries for additional
languages, including Ruby, PHP, Perl, Java, Clojure, Erlang, Haskell,
CLisp, and C#.  To that end, we would love to hear from you regarding
what S3 client libraries you use today so we can identify the most
popular options and create ports that are interoperable with
Nimbus.io.  Please feel free to just reply to this message and let us
know what you use, or especially if you would be interested in
contributing a client library.

Thank you for your continued interest in Nimbus.io.  We are excited to
be creating one of the first few commercial AGPL services, and and we
look forward to saving you a lot of money on cloud storage!

-Alan
