I notice that handling of OS versions is explicit.  There does not 
appear to be default handling for future OS versions.  It makes sense 
for the default to be based on the handling for the most recent OS 
version.

The reason why I believe that there should be default handling for 
unreleased OS versions which are newer than the current libtool has 
been tested with is that if a package incorporates libtool but has not 
been updated/maintained for several years, it should still have a 
reasonable chance to work properly on the latest MacOS .
