Here's a cheap trick: unless you have extravagant ways of configuring
libtool, you can just override LIBTOOL:
make clean all LIBTOOL=/my/libtool-2.2.2/libtool
make clean all LIBTOOL=/my/libtool-current/libtool
The libtool scripts often don't even have to be installed.
