Thanks Ralf, this comment made me realize that I was being silly  
trying to fix a problem in libtool that should be fixed in ld. So I  
emailed Nick (the Apple linker guy) and asked him to help. I sent a  
patch that implemented a -force_load linker flag, which he probably  
threw away before implementing his own version of same.

This libtool patch should work with darwin10 when it is released, not  
sure how much we should care about current darwin issues?
