Further working on a regtest, I now come up with:
~~~
testSemiTies =
(define-music-function (m)(ly:music?)
{
\new Staff {
\time 7/8
cis'2.. $m <cis' $m="" gis'=""> <cis' gis'="" $m=""> <cis' gis'=""> $m
}
})
to = g
\transpose c \to
<<
\testSemiTies \repeatTie
\testSemiTies \parenthesize \repeatTie
\testSemiTies \parenthesize \tweak direction #1 \repeatTie
\testSemiTies \parenthesize \tweak direction #-1 \repeatTie
\transpose c \to
<<
\testSemiTies \laissezVibrer
\testSemiTies \parenthesize \laissezVibrer
\testSemiTies \parenthesize \tweak direction #1 \laissezVibrer
\testSemiTies \parenthesize \tweak direction #-1 \laissezVibrer
~~~

In my humble opinion it would have the advantage we could delete
laissez-vibrer-chords.ly, repeat-tie-parenthesize.ly and
parenthesize-laissezvibrer.ly from the regtests.

Though, looking at the output I don't understand why the LVTie is
sometimes placed differently, see the second to bottom Staff, try
other pitches for 'to' as well.

I prefer the following, and it's not clear to the reader what to expect:

Let repeatTie work inside of event-chord

The previous coding of repeat-tie-engraver.cc is replaced by deriving
from Laissez_vibrer_engraver.
