Polyphony is probably a misnomer, better call the section "More voices
on a staff". The section should focus on \\ ; Perhaps the concept of
voices can already be alluded to ("In the next section we show how to
create this manually for more control").

Also it would be nice if merge-differently-{dotted,headed} could be
discussed, but unfortunately that uses \override and \revert, and
those aren't discussed until later on.  Perhaps the \override and
\revert should already be discussed earlier?

Sigh, ... writing a good tutorial for a complex system is really hard,
if it should be readable in a linear fashion too.
