Well, following examples behaves differently from expected:
\score {\notes {
<< c e g >>( )<< c e g >>
}}
gives parse error, and
\score {\notes {
<< c\fermata e g >>
}}
just eats the fermata. Perhaps a syntax error would be more appropriate.
