Yes. Go to the lilypond dirs and do a "cvs -z3 update" (assuming you got
the source from CVS, which I recommend). (the -z3 makes cvs use compression
while downloading any updates, which makes it faster and lessens the load
on the servers)

Not as far as I know. I always do "nice make deb", so that I can
still use my machine while it's building.

Heh, I wouldn't trust my debs. Especially since I don't update the
changelog, so Lilypond CVS 1.7.20 shows up as
lilypond1.7_1.7.16-1_i386.deb :)
