As in maths, I would rewrite the above, for example as:
Putting music example in the middle of a sentence looks appealling, consider

----------,
or any other example. Since examples of these kind are also instructions how to
play, they may appear as a part of the natural flow of the text. It should also
be possible to place the comma or period after the music example. If not, then
it should.
