chekc make/lilypond-vars.make , which sets variables (as the build
process also runs lily from source dir, evidently).

        byrd:~/usr/src/lilypond$ set|grep LILY
        LILYPONDPREFIX=/home/hanwen/usr/src/lilypond

after setting LILYPONDPREFIX i run lilypond-profile


        byrd:~/usr/src/lilypond$ ls -l `which lilypond`
        lrwxrwxrwx  1 hanwen hanwen 47 jul 25 03:09 /home/hanwen/bin/lilypond 
-> /home/hanwen/usr/src/lilypond/lily/out/lilypond
