(doc/language help) resp?

What does resp mean?  I'm guessing something like "and"?  Is it Dutch, 
or Latin?

"One can not feed the #:line (resp #:center, #:column) command with a 
variable ..."
"One should use the make-line-markup (resp., make-center-markup or 
make-column-markup) function..."

This word certainly doesn't exist in English...
