Actually, we phased out "harakiri" in documentation and user-land a couple of years ago; we had a complaint about being insensitive or something like that. I'm not certain if "harakiri" still exists in low-level internal stuff, but for the users, it's \removeEmptyStaff. :)
I think that Erik's suggestion of "Null" makes sense. Other ideas are "Empty" or "Nothing", but I think that Null is still clear enough for non-programmers.
