OK it exited with error messages but I think it all built properly anyway:

All of the .pdf versions of the docs are present but not in the
directory I expected. The html files look good, too. It took me a
moment to find them here:
~/lilypond/Documentation/user/out-www/
The Program Usage manual says the files will be put in
"out-www/offline-root/", but it never made a directory by that name. I
ran "make web" from the ~/lilypond/ directory. Did it put the docs in
the other directory because I built them independent from compiling
Lilypond?
Anyway I'm very pleased to have a successful doc build. I think I'll
take Werner's suggestion and redirect the terminal output to a log file
next time. Thanks for the help, guys,
