People will talk about you behind your back.

I am not much of a team player or socializer, but I manage to stay in a
choir and an orchestra. In the choir mostly because I am good. In the
orchestra mostly because I could become good, and they are short.

Physical presence helps keeping things in check and gives less
opportunity for talking about me behind my back.

Doesn't help the analogy all that much, does it?

The final metric maybe is "does more good than harm".
