github has great docs for starting with git, so look there if you
have trouble downloading it.

Once you have it, type
  make bootstrap
and then take your wife out shopping for 2-4 hours.  If that goes
well, we'll talk about the next stage.  If not, we'll need to know
the error message.  *cough*   I mean, the error from gub, not from
your wife.  You're on your own if she doesn't enjoy the shopping.
