Well, what do you see in target/tools/log/curl.log ?  The portion
of that logfile that GUB showed you doesn't contain any useful
info, so please manually open up that logfile and look for
anything suspicious.

also, exactly what OS/hardware are you using?  By chance I started
working on the "recompile everything" issue earlier tonight, and
curl built on my lilydev ubuntu machine.
