Thank you, Phil and James, for your explanations about testing
lilypond-book.  I'm sorry that i wasn't able to read them sooner,
however i hope i can use them now:

Here's what i did (i have Windows 7 Home Premium):
1) uninstalled LilyPond
2) manually removed lilypond paths from PATH
3) installed Lily using binary Graham linked to
4) added lilypond path to PATH (it didn't work automatically)
5) went to 'foo' directory containing 'LineLength.tely' posted by Phil
(attached)
6) called 'lilypond-book LineLength.tely' - it complained that it
doesn't know texi2pdf, but otherwise results look ok i think...  I
understand that texi2pdf is not what this test is about.  Below are
the logs, i also attach output png files.
