3.) I read somewhere: If there's "dal segno al fine"

again, this depends on the interpretation. orchestral waltzes often just
have a d.s. at the end of one of the parts. either the first fermata or
the first double bar (this may also be the d.s. mark itself!).

In baroque music, a fermata is often used to denote Fine. You often
see this also at the end of pieces without any D.C or D.S, where
the fermata over the final note just means that it's the end of the
piece, not necessarily that you have to hold if very long (as most
musicians of today would think).
