No it isn't :-)  That is, it would have been very important,

LilyPond < 2.3.0 does not know about encoding.  It tries to lookup
character 243 in a cmr*tfm file.

That was my first feeling too, but Mats convinced me otherwise.  Of
course, you can always send a patch ;-) but I would advise to look at
2.3 CVS first.
