ok, /etc/profile.d/ exist, but no lilypond* there or in /etc whatsoever.
but there is a /etc/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf that does a lot of TEXMF* and 
specifically:
TEXMF = 
{$TEXMFHOME,!!$TEXMFSYSCONFIG,!!$TEXMFSYSVAR,!!$TEXMFMAIN,!!$TEXMFLOCAL,!!$TEXMFDIST,!!/usr/share/lilypond/2.4.4}

but now im in deep water, im not used to mess around in these areas... 
so what im supposed to do with this file i have no clue.
