Daniel,

It finally managed to successfully compile lilypond. Thank you very much for your help.

It had to do indeed with the installation of tetex as you pointed out. The problem I believe I had, was the location of some map files. For more detail you can refer to:

http://tug.org/texlive/mapenc.html

As soon as I managed to complete the upgrade of tetex to version 3.0, the lilypond compilation problem was fixed. To be more precise, I believe the problem could be fixed without having to upgrade tetex, but upgrading is not necessarily a bad idea anyway.

Once again thanks for your help. Now I am ready to enjoy the new features of Lilypond.

Cheers,
Luis

Thanks Daniel,

Unfortunately I am getting a clean output from that command.

mf --version
Metafont 2.71828 (Web2C 7.5.4)
kpathsea version 3.5.4

However I am thinking you are right, there must be something wrong in my installation of tetex. Yesterday I got some errors about the map files being in a deprecated directory structure whilst compiling tetex 3.0. I am trying to fix that now.

Cheers,
Luis

Hi Luis --

I don't think ec-fonts is part of this problem. Looks like you are
crashing while Metafont is trying to generate a feta font -- that
shouldn't involve ec-fonts at all. What is happening is that not only is
Metafont failing, but it is not even generating a log. Do you get clean
results for the following:

mf --version

If your system can't find mf or if mf itself crashes, then it'll be
small wonder that mftrace is choking. That would also explain your
issues with ec-fonts.
