It should work to go back to a version that previously
works. It's possible that some kind of font-cache corruption
happened in the .19 release, which is retained if you up/downgrade.

This should be fixable by deleting 

  ~/.font*

(use with care if you have fonts stored in ~/.fonts )

See what was changed recently with

  ls -ltra ~/
