i'm using \override Beam #'damping = #+inf.0 to get horizontal beams
(the only hack i know and that i could find to get horizontal beams).
but more or less randomly some groups of notes are rendered with some
slant. i haven been able to pin down when or why this happens, but
below is an example, with images:
