You don't need to hack SystemStartBracket stencil.  Just set
instrumentName in the StaffGroup (and change the alignment via
self-alignment).

I wasn't aware of this possibility.
Nevertheless, hacking the SystemStartBracket was a good exercise in scheme and LilyPond-Internals. :D
