I don't know any existing function that does this, but it certainly
could be done.
An idea comes to my mind: you can try coloring notes depending on
their pitch (see http://lsr.dsi.unimi.it/LSR/Item?id=572). You can
try modifying that snippet to create a function that would paint in
red all notes outside of a given range.
