Aligned displays must lie within the same galley. Each list item is a
separate galley, so, as an unfortunate consequence, aligned displays
cannot span several list items.

Default indentation for display is centering.

Will @IndentedDisplay do? At least you'll have your displays indented
consistently (left-aligned).
