It's getting tedious having to make these changes to lots of different
files, isn't it?  I am thinking about changing the mechanism so that
one table is used as the default table, and will be checked as a last 
resort if no translation has been found for the current display character
set.  Then everything that translates to ASCII-chars only needs to be
added only to the default table.

Well that's why you haven't seen anything new yet, because I am always
thinking of new things...
