One thing I use (although with a microbrowser instead of lynx) is
something like:
lynx -source http://cnnfn.com/markets/us_markets.html \
| t2tgrnest.awk denest=1
and put this in a command script so I can just type "cnnix" and get a
display of the market indicies (without all the annoying graphics).
I have another agent pull ticker data twice per minute into a file when
the markets are open for later analysis, and I even pull graphs using
similar types of scripts (submit a form, grab the html result, grep for
the gif, then grab and display the gif).
(t2tgrnest.awk is on www.mich.com/~thomas/ftp - it also works with the
ported w32 gawk at www.cygnus.com)
Try that with netscape or IE...

Now that IE has Active X support, when is Lynx going to be able to
download shell scripts or binaries and execute them automatically after
displaying a warning, or checking a signature? [just kidding ;-) ]
