Can you explain a bit what you mean here? Do you mean that if you boot
up your machine (what type of machine - sparc or intel?) and then instead
of starting X you just log in, you run lynx and have some sort of
problem? What sort? How is your $TERM and $TERMINFO set in this
case? Can you run vi in this case? Descripe specifically the problem.

I use lynx on a SPARC/Solaris 2.5.1 without using an xterm all the time.
so the answer to this second question is 'No'.

I would like for a student to just be able to login to the Solaris 2.5
workstation as user "newuser" and bring up a lynx URL to our local site
and get information without having to bring up OpenWindows or an xterm
program.

The "default" terminal type for the console is "sun". When I use this then
I can't see where the cursor or current link is and also the links
seem to work, I can even operate "blind" and go to any other URL links
listed in the document, but I can't see "where I'm at" because the high-lighted
cursor is not displayed.

Am I doing something dumb? Or not doing something? Or ... ????

This is SPARC Solaris 2.5.

VI runs fine.

There is no TERMINFO set.

   Thanks.
