What do you (both of you) mean with "external downloader"?
- The development code's EXTERNAL / USE_EXTERNAL (see devel lynx.cfg), or
- something else?

I think the devel code's EXTERNAL already has some of that.
You could use scripts to manage queues, including prompts if necessary,
and make them as fancy as you want.
