First run Lynx and when you get one of these garbled screens, use
Control-L or Control-W to clear it up.  If that works, your
terminal setup is suspect.

Next, try running Lynx with the " -term=vt100 " option.  See if
that prevents the garbled-screen behavior.

If that fixes things, or even if it doesn't, you will need to
work with the system support staff at your ISP to get the
personality files (.login, .cshrc or whatever) for your account
fixed so you can run happily with the VT-100 emulation in your
modem program again.
