I think you are referring to the fact that Win 3.0 and prior was available to
developers as a `runtime environment' that could be distributed with their apps.
In other words, from the DOS prompt, you typed `win yourapp.exe' and, lo, your
app ran, even though the runtime Windows would not run by itself.

I'm willing to bet that still is possible, although I haven't tried it since
I took my geos system off the hard drive.

What is really interesting is that places like Sun Microsystems have been 
supporting win32s versions of their tcl/tk system.  This is probably out of
spite to Microshaft, which wants to dump Dos and all prior versions of Windows.
The fact remains that win32s is quite capable of running most apps like lynx,
once they are compiled in large model.  (You do remember large model code, don't
you?)  Now why would outfits like lynx and GNU ignore this, I wonder?  Out
of loyalty to Der Fuehrer in Richmond?
